Mention the phrase "C'mon Down" to any longtime Winnipegger, and they'll tell you those are the words famously uttered by Nicholas "Nick" Hill, founder of Kern-Hill Furniture.

Nick, known for doing his own enthusiastic radio and television commercials, always included that famous phrase in his promotions, and Winnipeggers came to know Kern-Hill as the place to "C'mon Down" for great deals, quality merchandise and friendly, knowledgeable staff.

Nick shared his enthusiasm for the furniture and appliance business with his children.

While Nick passed away in 2003, there's no doubt he would be proud of the way his sons Andy, Nick Jr. and Scott are carrying on his legacy.
But the boys still say that their mother is "The Boss."

Kern-Hill is now entering it's 57th year of operation, and while some things are new, including Kern-Hill's new location at 660 Nairn Avenue (about two miles away as the crow flies from the previous location on Main St., says Andy), what hasn't changed is the commitment to customer service that Nick instilled in his boys early on.

"He taught us to treat our customers the way we'd like to be treated," recalls Andy.

"And to give the customer more than they expect," Nick Jr. adds
